Eoin Costello outside Costello Jewellers,Cornelscourt, which he sold to set up an internet business
The Awards were established by Eoin Costello in 1999. He ran a retail jewellery business and in 1999 took the momentous decision to sell his business to set up an internet business. While working on establishing of his new internet business, Novara Technology Group, he realised that if Ireland is to maintain its pre-eminent position in software and internet development an increased level of use of the Internet needed to be engendered amongst Irish students. Thus he set about organising and sponsoring the School & University Internet Awards.
Ireland is now one of the top software research and development centres in the world. Mr. Costello felt that making the Internet central to Irish academic institutions would help Ireland to remain so. He is delighted that host.ie are generously sponsoring the 2003 SUIA Awards.
