The Rules
- To qualify for entry you must enter all the information requested on
the Entry Form.
- Websites that have been entered in other competitions are welcome to
be entered.
- Each entry must be accompanied by a declaration by the students entering
that the site conforms to the content requirements identified in Rule 10
below. The entrant must credit third party material and have permission
from third parties for the use of any copyright materials (images, extracts)
used in their site. The onus is on the entering students to ensure compliance
with this requirement. Sites found to be in breach of Rule 10 and Rule 3
will be disqualified.
- The judges' decision is final. Correspondence will not be entered into.
- The competition is open to all full time students in schools and third
level institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Students in part time
education may also enter on condition that their course relates to the
Internet.
- It is your responsibility to ensure that the URL remains valid and correct for
the duration of judging of the competition (i.e. from the closing date until
the presentation night).
- The prize giving will be held approximately one month after the closing
date. Full details of date and venue will be posted on the SUIA website
when confirmed.
- Students should be prepared to attend the prize giving and be prepared
to do interviews with the media if their site is in the final selection.
- On an ongoing basis, all entries received will be listed on this site
after they have been passed as eligible. After entering your site please
check to ensure that your site is listed within 5 days of entering your
details. If it is not listed please contact us immediately to confirm your
entry. It is your responsibility to follow up your entry in this situation
and make sure that we have received your entry. We cannot be responsible
for failures in email or internet.
- Guidelines on Content and Creation of website: For primary schools the
students should be responsible for at least 50% of the content. For secondary
schools students must be responsible for 70% of the content and creation.
For third level the students must be responsible for 100% of the content
and creation.
- When all the entries have been received the relevant supervisory individual
in your school/university will be contacted to ensure that the rules on
content and creation have been complied with.
- We reserve the right to change the terms of this competition should the
necessity arise.
- All sites entering the award must display the logo of the School &
University Internet Awards on the home page. The image and text will be
supplied to each entrant upon confirmation of receipt of their entry.
- Websites created for paying clients are admissible on the following conditions;
- They are clearly identified as commercial websites.
- The site is solely produced by students in full time education without the use
of resources of a professional company.
- Multiple entries from the one person/team are welcome up to a maximum
of three entries per individual/team. There is no limit on the number of
entries allowed from the one educational establishment.
- Once the closing date has passed students are allowed to continue updating
those elements of their sites that require continuous updating such as news
sections however after the closing date no further development work may
take place on the site until after the presentation night.
- As the Awards are open to all age groups sites that are considered to
be inappropriate will not be eligible to enter the Awards.
The Judging Criteria
Once the closing date has elapsed the judges will start to assess each site.
The overall criteria is how well the entrant's site uses the medium of the
internet to communicate their subject's central idea/message. In reaching
this assessment the judges base it on the following criteria. Please note
that these are not requirements for entry, they are simply the judging criteria.
A. Content: Relevant and original content.
B. Navigation: Ease of navigation through the site and consistency
of navigation.
C. Resource Value: Will other students benefit from the use of the
entrant's site.
D. Look & Feel: Design, appropriate use of images, animation
and colour.
E. Accessibility: How the site performs on an average 56k modem
connection.
