What Sites Qualify?
Primary Schools
Primary school students from Ireland and Northern Ireland are invited to
enter sites that can focus on any of the following;
- A subject that they have worked on in class (e.g. a website about the
birds or trees that are common in their area).
- A subject of local interest (e.g. a website about their town).
- website about their school (professionally produced websites commissioned
by the school management would be excluded).
- A subject of interest to other students (a supporters website for the
county's hurling or football team or a fan site for a music group).
Secondary Schools
This section invites secondary school students to submit websites they have
designed. The competition is open to all secondary schools in Ireland and
Northern Ireland. The entries can focus on a broad range of subjects such
as;
- A subject on the academic curriculum (e.g. a website about the local
geological structure or about a famous historical battle in their area).
- A subject of local interest (e.g. the history of the local town or a guide
to the services provided locally).
- A website publicising the school (professionally produced websites commissioned
by the school management would be excluded).
- A subject of interest to other students (a supporters website for the
county's hurling or football team or a fan site for a music group).
Multiple applications from the same school are welcome, as the objective
of the competition is to get as many students involved in the Internet as
possible. The criteria for judging this competition is how successfully the
students use the medium of the Internet to convey their work.
University Internet Competition
The competition is open to all third level students in Ireland and Northern
Ireland. Third level students are invited to enter websites that:
- Focus on a particular course/academic subject that the students are studying.
This can focus on study in any discipline, from medicine to languages. It
is not limited to computer science or the Internet.
- Presents a research paper on any subject in a very graphical form (this
would be quite revolutionary as most academic papers are hard to work through,
a website offers a unique way of communicating complicated ideas graphically).
The method of judging here would be on how the student/s used the medium
of the Internet to illustrate the research work rather than a judgement
on the merit of the research work itself.
- Demonstrate an advance, or potential advance, in Internet technology illustrated
in a website format.
- Demonstrate an advance, or potential advance, in the application of current
Internet applications illustrated in a website format.
- Is a community website such as a site for a sports club, student services
etc.
Work that students are doing as part of their course work is acceptable
for entry.
Websites created for paying clients are admissible on the following conditions;
- They are clearly identified as commercial websites.
- The site is solely produced by students in full time education without
the use of resources of a professional company.
